Welcome to Angel Oak Animal Hospital where your furry friend's care is of utmost importance. We offer a wide array of vet services such as vaccinations, lab testing, surgery, and overall wellness. We have an in-house lab to get you the most accurate results as quickly as possible. We are a cat-friendly facility with exam rooms that are far away from the dogs that we care for. Our exam rooms have non-stainless steel counters with a "happy hormone" diffuser. Our staff focuses on long-term relationships with our pet families and you will always be welcomed with a familiar face!   • DR. ELIZABETH RIVERS

    Dr. Elizabeth Rivers grew up in the small town of Pickens, SC. She spent much of her childhood dreaming of becoming a veterinarian and spent the next 18 years achieving that goal. She has been working in veterinary clinics for 11 years. She started as a kennel assistant and became a veterinary assistant. In 2009, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. She graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Beta Beta Beta honor society. At the University Of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine she focused on small animal medicine and surgery and was a member of Phi Zeta honor society. In 2014 she graduated cum laude with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
She was practicing small animal veterinary medicine in Columbia, SC prior to moving to Charleston. She is a member of the South Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Dr. Rivers’ interests include preventive care, soft tissue surgery, and behavior. She lives on Johns Island, SC with her husband, their 3 dogs, and their cat. Her interests outside veterinary medicine include spending time with her family, volleyball, and woodworking.

  • DR. LEFFLER

    Dr. Lynda Leffler is a graduate of the University of Georgia. GO DAWGS! She moved to South Carolina in 2004 after selling her practice of 20 years in Virginia. She enjoys the beaches and beauty of nature in the lowcountry. When not at the clinic, you can find her playing tennis, playing pickle ball or riding her bike. She has also been a member of the turtle patrol at Kiawah for 17 years. Two yellow labs and 2 black cats make up her fur family along with her husband, John.

  • Dr. Lauren Pratt

    Dr. Lauren Pratt was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up dancing at Towson University with the Children's Dance Division and performed in the Nutcracker with the Moscow Ballet at the Hippodrome theatre for 5 consecutive years. She went to Roland Park Country School for high school where she continued to dance, found her love for science, and rowed with the Roland Park crew team winning Baltimore championships for two consecutive years. She went to the University of Tampa for her undergraduate degree and in 2012, she graduated with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. Upon graduation, she started working as a veterinary nurse at a general practice in Maryland. In 2013, she was accepted to veterinary school at the University of Illinois where during her summer and holiday breaks, she worked at an emergency clinic in Maryland. In May 2017, she graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. She was practicing small animal veterinary medicine in Baltimore, MD prior to moving to Charleston. She lives in James Island, SC with her husband, two cats, and a dog. Her interests outside of veterinary medicine include spending time with her family, boating, hiking, fishing, camping, and hunting for shark teeth on Folly Beach.

    Practice Manager

    Amy was born and raised in the midwest. She attended college and graduated with an associate’s degree in photography. She moved to Charleston in 1994 and opened a photography business with her husband, Gary. After moving to the area, Amy quickly got involved in helping feral cats and started a rescue group to spay and neuter them. In 1999, her love for helping animals led her to a job in a veterinary clinic. She has held positions as receptionist, veterinary technician, and office manager. Amy and Gary live on Johns Island with their child, Morgan, 3 rescue dogs, and numerous rescue and feral cats.

  • JENNIFER

    Veterinary Assistant

    Born and raised on the Florida coast, Jennifer had a desire to work with animals from a young age. After graduating from Syracuse University, she started a career in dolphin training and educational interactive programs with SeaWorld. This gave her the opportunity to live and work in places like Hawaii, Florida, and even Dubai. Prior to joining the Angel Oak Animal Hospital team, she was the Education Program Manager at Zoo New England where she was able to share her passion for animal welfare and public education through various outreach programs. Working with and caring for an eclectic mix of both domestic and exotic species, Jennifer has a wide range of experience with animals, from sloths to gators, to the more familiar kitties and canines. Residing in West Ashley with her husband and two cats, Frank and Rhonda, in her free time Jennifer enjoys discovering new breweries and restaurants, as well as spending time with her and extended family along the Charleston coastline.

  • ADDIE

    Veterinary Assistant

    Addie grew up in the small town of Pickens, SC. She felt from a young age that animals have held a special place in her heart and helped her feel secure with day to day life. Her significant other brought her to the Charleston area where she knew it was time to start fresh and follow her passion and love for animals. She is now proud to hold the title as a veterinarian assistant here at Angel Oak Animal Hospital. It has inspired her to further her education and pursue her career in helping animals by going back to school. During her free time, she enjoys going to Dunkin’ Donuts, taking her dogs to the local parks, exploring the beauty of Charleston, and fostering cats and dogs. Her favorite place to be is at home spending time with her family, which consists of her fiancé Isaac, her dogs Logan and Zeus, and cat Henry.

  • SAVANNA

    Savanna was born and raised in Alaska. She is the second oldest of five children. Her first animal love was horses. She has worked at several horse barns as a teenager. She has experience in both Western and English riding. She has transitioned to small animal medicine over the past several years and loves it!

  • Deborah

    Deborah was born in Charleston and raised on Folly Beach. She worked as a paramedic for 20 years before coming to Angel Oak Animal Hospital in 2021. She enjoys spending her time off at the beach. She has been married to her husband, Chris, for 34 years. They live on Johns Island with 2 of their 8 children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 4 birds, and 1 turtle.
